War of Will will try to win for the first time since last year's Preakness Stakes when he leaves the starting gate in the 2020 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita Park. This four-year-old son of War Front has four wins, one second and two thirds in 14 career starts. He last raced in November, finishing ninth in the Breeders' Cup Classic. On Monday, he's one of the top favorites in the latest 2020 Shoemaker Mile odds at 4-1.

The Chad Brown-trained Raging Bull is the 7-2 favorite. The winner of Monday's race will receive an automatic berth in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland, and post time for the Grade 1 turf race is 7:38 p.m. ET. With such a large and balanced field set to leave the starting gate, you need to see the horse racing predictions and best bets from handicapping legend Hank Goldberg before making any 2020 Shoemaker Mile picks.

The former horse racing analyst for ESPN and NBC, Goldberg became a legendary handicapper by going straight to the source. In 2004, he had dinner before the Belmont Stakes with trainer Nick Zito at a pizzeria in Queens. The dinner led Goldberg to play Zito's 36-1 monster long shot Birdstone to win and on top of his exacta, trifecta and superfecta bets. When Birdstone shocked the world, Hammer won $24,000. And in the San Felipe Stakes in March, Goldberg gave out a $20 exacta that paid $180.

Now, Goldberg has studied the 2020 Shoemaker Mile field and has released his picks, predictions and exotic bets. He's only sharing them here.

2020 Shoemaker Mile predictions

Goldberg is completely fading River Boyne, even though he's one of the top favorites at 4-1. In fact, Goldberg says River Boyne doesn't even hit the board. A five-year-old son of Dandy Man, River Boyne has nine wins, five seconds and four thirds in 24 career starts. He is on a two-race winning streak and is coming off a win in the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile on March 7.

But he arguably faces a tougher field on Monday than he faced in the Kilroe. In addition, he has drawn the far outside post, which could lead to valuable lost ground.

Another shocker: Goldberg is high on Blitzkrieg, even though he's a huge long shot at 20-1, the biggest price in the field. A four-year-old son of War Front, Blitzkrieg has five wins in 19 career starts. He is coming off an 11th-place finish at Meydan Racecourse, the last of four straight races for him in Dubai.

He is 0-for-5 this year, but three of his five career wins came sprinting on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita, which often was dominated by mile specialists. "Monday's distance is perfect for him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he went off at more than 20-1," Goldberg told SportsLine.

How to make 2020 Shoemaker Mile picks

Goldberg's top choice for the 2020 Shoemaker Mile is a surprising double-digit long shot. This horse "always runs his race," Goldberg said, and could light up the tote board on Memorial Day. Goldberg's including this horse in his exacta and superfecta wagers, and so should you. He's sharing which horse to back only at SportsLine.
