A Jesse Owens gold medal, Muhammad Ali robe up for auction
Several pieces of history are set to go on sale later this month.
Jesse Owens' gold medal from the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin is one of many historic sports items to be auctioned off later this month.
Owens famously won four gold medals at the Berlin Olympics in front of a displeased Adolf Hitler. It is not specified for which event this medal comes, only that it was won at the '36 games.
In addition, a fight-worn robe used by Muhammad Ali will also be for sale. Ali wore the robe prior to his 1976 heavyweight title bout with Jimmy Young. The auction house expects the robe, which is said to be in "wonderful condition" though showing "appropriate wear", to sell for somewhere around $50,000.
Owens' medal, on the other hand, could fetch the highest price for Olympic memorabilia in history, as the cost is expected to exceed $1 million.
Other items of note: Shane Victorino's grand slam home run ball from this year's the ALCS; a few Jackie Robinson game-used bats; Warren Moon's 2005 NFC Championship ring, which he earned as a member of the broadcast team (seriously); and a game-worn Wilt Chamberlain jersey.
Th auction will be held online by SCP Auctions, with bidding scheduled to begin Nov. 20 and run through Dec. 7.
