The 2020 Belmont Stakes will kick off the Triple Crown schedule for the first time since its inception, with the 10-horse field set to run on Saturday at Belmont Park. The Barclay Tagg-trained Tiz the Law has won four of his five starts and owns two Grade 1 victories, including last year's Champagne Stakes at Belmont as a two-year-old. As a result, Tiz the Law is the 6-5 morning line favorite in the latest 2020 Belmont Stakes odds. Sole Volante is the 9-2 second favorite, followed by Dr Post at 5-1 and Tap It to Win at 6-1.

The Belmont Stakes 2020 has been shortened to 1 1/8 miles from the usual 1 1/2-mile Test of Champions, and fans will not be permitted at Belmont Park because of the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 Triple Crown schedule will be stretched over 15 weeks instead of the customary five, with the Kentucky Derby slated for September and the Preakness Stakes planned for October. Before making any horse racing picks, you'll want to see the latest 2020 Belmont Stakes predictions from horse racing authority Richard Eng.

Eng was the turf editor and handicapper for the Las Vegas Review-Journal for 20 years and literally wrote the book on wagering on the sport. He's the author of "Betting on Horse Racing for Dummies," the preeminent book for newcomers.

This is the same handicapper who was higher than almost everyone on Sir Winston at last year's Belmont Stakes, writing, "Sir Winston ran a fast speed figure in the Peter Pan, which is the local Belmont Stakes prep race. He is trained by Mark Casse, who is the trainer of War of Will. There is an old saying in horse racing that when any trainer has two runners in the same race uncoupled, you better pay attention to the longer-priced horse. Sir Winston fits the 'MO' of many past Belmont Stakes winners at huge odds."

The result: Sir Winston (10-1) swung around two horses down the homestretch and won a stunning Belmont Stakes, finishing ahead of heavy favorite Tacitus. Eng turned a $40 exacta box into $960. Sir Winston opened at 12-1 and went off as the fifth choice on the odds board, and anyone who followed Eng's horse racing picks cashed big.

The year before, Eng was all-in on Justify when that horse was a monster 100-1 long shot in the Kentucky Derby Futures Book, before the horse even made his racing debut. Eng picked Justify to win all three Triple Crown races, cashing big each time.

Now, Eng has released his 2020 Belmont Stakes picks, predicting every horse's exact finish and sharing his specific exacta and trifecta recommendations. He's sharing all of it at SportsLine.

2020 Belmont Stakes expert predictions

One shocker: Eng says there is no value in picking Tiz the Law to win, but he doesn't advise leaving him off your ticket altogether. Tiz the Law will break from the No. 8 position, which has produced only five Belmont Stakes winners in 151 races, and faces a field of accomplished 2020 Belmont Stakes horses. Sole Volante, Dr Post and Tap It to Win are among those who have turned heads, and they'll be gunning for the upset.

Sole Volante rallied for a last-to-first win in an optional claiming race at Gulfstream on June 10, and he comes in revved up. The Todd-Pletcher-trained Dr Post has won both starts as a three-year-old, while Tap it to Win is a late bloomer trained by Mark Casse, who molded 2019 Belmont winner Sir Winston. All but two horses in the 2020 Belmont Stakes lineup are going off at 15-1 or better. There are plenty of changes to the 2020 Belmont Stakes, but one thing that hasn't changed is the quality of the field.

How to make 2020 Belmont Stakes picks

Instead of Tiz the Law, Eng is eyeing a colt with "a similar pattern" to Sir Winston, a horse with an impressive pedigree that's on the third race of his "form cycle." That means the Belmont Stakes is his third race following a layoff, a scenario, insiders say, that often translates to peak fitness. He's only sharing which horse to back, and his entire projected 2020 Belmont Stakes leaderboard, here.
