Belmont Stakes odds, predictions 2020: Surprising picks from same expert who's hit five straight races
Horse racing insider Jody Demling has picked the winner in five straight horse races.
With Nadal forced into retirement after a broken bone in his left front leg, the 2020 Belmont Stakes field could be even more wide open. Nadal was injured during a training run, sustaining a condylar fracture that removes a potential winner out of the 2020 Belmont Stakes lineup. The 2020 Belmont Stakes is set to go off Saturday, June 20 as the first leg of the Triple Crown instead of its traditional last leg, and the length of the race has been shortened from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/8 miles.
Florida Derby champ Tiz the Law is atop the most recent 2020 Belmont Stakes odds at 2-1. Although Charlatan's owners are reportedly considering him for the Woody Stephens Stakes, the unbeaten horse is right behind Tiz the Law at 4-1. Before making any horse racing picks, you'll want to see the latest 2020 Belmont Stakes predictions from SportsLine's Jody Demling.
A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing about, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling enters the 2020 Belmont Stakes on a major heater on his horse racing picks. He has the picked the winner in five straight races: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby and Florida Derby.
This is the same handicapper who hit the Oaks-Derby double at Churchill Downs nine times in the last 11 years. That means he held a ticket with the winners of both the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby all but twice in his last 11 tries.
And when it comes to the Belmont, Demling has delivered plenty of memorable paydays. In 2017, he said 5-1 sleeper Tapwrit would beat the heavily-favored Irish War Cry. Demling was spot-on, winning not just his exacta, but also his trifecta and superfecta, which paid out nearly $4,500 on a $2 bet. In 2018 Demling was all-in on Justify to dominate the Belmont, and Justify went wire-to-wire to become just the 13th Triple Crown winner ever.
Now, Demling has released his early picks for the 2020 Belmont Stakes, predicting where every horse will finish. He's sharing all of it at SportsLine.
2020 Belmont Stakes expert predictions
One surprise: Demling says Charlatan, one of the top Vegas favorites who's 3-for-3 in his career, barely hits the board. The son of Speighstown, Charlatan "is super talented" but needs to mature more, according to Demling. He believes Charlatan could be ready to shine later this year, but isn't worth the 4-1 premium you'll need to pay for him right now.
Another curveball: Demling is high on Dr Post, even though he's a long shot at 11-1 Belmont odds 2020. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Pay no attention to the fact that Dr Post has only taken the starting gate three times in his career. You should know that Dr Post hasn't lost in two 2020 races, including the Unbridled Stakes at Gulfstream in late April. That 1 1/2-length victory over Attachment Rate vaulted Dr Post into the discussion among Belmont Stakes contenders.
The son of Quality Road out of Mary Delaney, Dr Post ran the 1 1/16 miles of the Unbridled Stakes in 1:43.07 to follow up a sharp victory March 29 in a seven-furlong maiden race at Gulfstream. With veteran trainer Todd Pletcher guiding his journey to the Triple Crown, Dr Post appears to be one of the exciting three-year-old prospects of the season. Demling agrees, saying Dr Post "looks like a future superstar", and believes he should be in your 2020 Belmont Stakes bets.
How to make 2020 Belmont Stakes picks
Demling is high on a double-digit long shot, calling him a terrific closer who will be "flying in the end." He's only sharing which horse to back, and his entire projected 2020 Belmont Stakes leaderboard, here.
