Athletes Unlimited has announced a partnership with CBS Sports to broadcast the league's inaugural softball season. The 2020 season will feature seven games set to be aired on CBS Sports Network.
The league will feature 56 of the world's best softball stars from countries like Canada, Italy, Mexico, and the United States. The action will take place at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Illinois and runs from August 30 until Sept. 29.
Fans can watch all 30 games on CBS Sports Network and ESPN.
Athletes Unlimited is a softball league that will feature faster play and a new draft where team rosters that will change every week.
"We are thrilled to be working with CBS and ESPN. It was extremely important to us to offer our games to a broad audience and not require an additional paid subscription," Athletes Unlimited co-founder and CEO Jon Patricof said in a press release. "These deals will allow our games to reach as wide of an audience as possible of both existing fans of softball as well as general sports fans. These partnerships will provide sports fans with the opportunity to watch every second of competition featuring the best softball players on the planet this summer. We look forward to highlighting our players through compelling storytelling and incorporating new technologies that will cover every angle of play and integrate content from both players and our fans."
Athletes Unlimited plans to create a new viewer experience and will work side-by-side with Ross Mobile Productions to produce all 30 games. Some of those aspects include social media content being shown during the broadcast, super slow-motion cameras to break down plays, and all-access player audio.
"We are excited to showcase the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited on CBS Sports Network and bring a unique viewing experience to softball fans," CBS Sports Executive Vince President of Programming Dan Weinberg said. "It is a wonderful addition to the CBS Sports Network lineup as we continue to add innovative properties to our growing roster of programming."
Athletes Unlimited will feature some of the world's best professional softball players including Jenny Gilbert and Cat Osterman.
