Horse racing continues to take place daily during the coronavirus pandemic, and on Sunday the Graham Motion-trained Mercilla will try to get back into the winner's circle when she leaves the starting gate in an optional claiming race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. A 4-year-old daughter of Arch, Mercilla has two wins and one second in six career starts. She last raced on Nov. 30, finishing sixth in a Grade 3 stakes at Aqueduct. On Sunday she has been installed as the 4-1 morning-line favorite among those drawn into the main field for Race 9, a nine-furlong turf race that drew 12 entrants, four also-eligibles and one main-track-only runner. 

The race is the third leg of the late Pick 4, which requires a bettor to pick the winner in four consecutive races. The Pick 4 begins with Race 7 at 4:08 p.m. ET. Kinchen is high on Charming Lady, a 4-1 shot in Race 8, the second leg of the Pick 4. This 3-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper has one win, two seconds and one third in four career starts. She is coming off a second-place finish on April 26.

In that race, she earned a career-best 79 Beyer Speed Figure. "Charming Lady ran a solid second in an allowance race at Oaklawn Park in her last start, finishing behind Edgeway, who's a talented, stakes-caliber filly," Kinchen tells SportsLine. 

Kinchen also is high on Whispering Beauty, a 5-1 shot in Race 9. This 4-year-old daughter of Arch has two wins, two seconds and one third in six career starts. She is coming off a runner-up finish at Gulfstream Park on April 24.

But that race was on dirt, and Sunday's race will be on turf, her preferred surface. "Her turf races earlier this year were good, and she should get a great trip from the 2 hole," Kinchen added.
