Colombia's James Rodriguez signs six-year deal with Real Madrid

Colombia’s Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez has parlayed his World Cup success into a lucrative transfer from Monaco to Real Madrid, the club confirmed on Tuesday. 

Rodriguez, who scored a tournament-best six goals (including the goal of the tournament), passed his physical on Tuesday and will be introduced by the team later this afternoon. The six-year deal is worth a reported $108 million for the 23-year-old. Wearing No. 10 for his new club, Rodriguez is expected to accompany his teammates on its US tour, which begins in under a week. 

Rodriguez is the second significant transfer to Madrid since the World Cup ended earlier this month. Along with Colombia’s star goal scorer, Real added German midfielder Toni Kroos, who was crucial in his side’s title-winning run in Brazil.

The latest signee will pair with Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the final third to give Real one of the most feared attacks in the world.
