Manny Pacquaio and Brandon Rios camps involved in altercation
A pre-fight altercation got out of hand Wednesday morning in advance of Saturday night's bout between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios.
Manny Pacquaio and Brandon Rios are scheduled to fight Saturday night in Macau, but the trainers for both fighters decided to get things started a little earlier than that.
On Wednesday, Pacquaio trainer Freddie Roach approached the Rios camp because he believed they'd gone past their allotted time at the training center the two fighters are sharing. Things quickly got out of hand, and Roach was kicked in the chest by a member of the Rios camp.
There is video of the event. (Warning: Offensive, NSFW language.)
"Our time is at 11 each day," Roach told ESPN's Bernardo Osuna. "I waited until five past 11 upstairs, and I came down, and Brandon was jumping rope. I waited until he had finished, and I went up to Robert Garcia and said, 'Our time is at 11.' Ariza started making fun of my Parkinson's, and I said, 'What's your problem?' and he kicked me and ran away."
Both sides fling some nasty and offensive language, with the Rios camp mocking Roach's condition, while Roach returns volley with several racially-charged statements.
Neither fighter was involved in the fight. Though Rios is present, he's just working out on an elliptical machine the entire time.
