According to the Irish Independent the relationship between Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell might be getting a little strained.

McIlroy is still locked in a nasty lawsuit with his former management company, Horizon Sports Management, a company that McDowell is also represented by.

The Independent is reporting that Horizon claims that McIlroy timed his lawsuit with Horizon to coincide with McDowell's wedding in September 2013.

Why would he do that?

"Horizon, led by MD Conor Ridge, has claimed that Mr McIlroy issued legal proceedings against the agency in September 2013 to 'inflict maximum reputational damage through the media' on Mr Ridge and Colin Morrissey, his trusted lieutenant.
"Horizon says Mr McIlroy knew both men were attending 'G-Mac's' September 28, 2013, marriage to Kristin Stape, an American interior designer."

McIlroy contended that that was when he had a "simple gap" in his schedule.

But it allegedly goes even further than that.

"In court papers, Horizon claims that Mr McIlroy’s team referred to Mr McDowell’s upcoming nuptials in emails as 'D-Day.'

"This has been hotly denied by the golfer who says the 'D-Day' references related to the day when the lawsuit against Horizon would be filed."

McIlroy's team says this is just a reference to when the lawsuit would be filed, independent of McDowell's wedding (which McIlroy did not attend).

The whole thing is rather odd and though I don't know what will come of it, it shows just how deep the rabbit hole of McIlroy's lawsuit and contentious relationship with his old management company goes.

McIlroy is claiming that McDowell essentially got better deals than he did when he was with Horizon.

"Mr McIlroy, who is set to give evidence for at least two weeks, says that he got 'markedly inferior' conditions – such as paying a higher-level commission on lucrative off-course earnings – compared to Mr McDowell."

Maybe this is what the US needs to give its team hope in the Ryder Cup!

In all seriousness, though, I truly hope this isn't an issue for McIlroy and McDowell. They're two of the better dudes in golf and the sport would be worse off if they were having a Biggie-Tupac-like feud.
