Mahan withdraws from Bridgestone, opts to be with newborn baby
After withdrawing from the Canadian Open this past weekend due to the birth of his daughter, it's no shock that Hunter Mahan has also withdrawn from this week's Bridgestone Invitational.
Following the birth of his first child early Sunday morning, Hunter Mahan has withdrawn from the Bridgestone Invitational, the PGA Tour confirmed on Monday.
“I have elected to officially withdraw myself from the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational so that I can take the opportunity to spend this precious first week at home with Zoe,” he said in a statement. “I would like to thank the PGA Tour for supporting my decision not to play this week."
Both Baby and Mom are doing great. Thanks to all to my sponsors who appreciate what's important in life and all my fans for being Awesome!— Hunter Mahan (@HunterMahan) July 28, 2013
The move shouldn’t come as any sort of surprise to fans or sponsors, alike.
It’s the second straight tournament Mahan has withdrawn from, after he pulled out of the Canadian Open this past weekend, despite a two-stroke lead heading into the third round.
He’s expected to return for the PGA Championship in two weeks.
