Masters: Tiger Woods puts new 3-wood in bag for Augusta
Tiger Woods puts a new club in his bag for the 2013 Masters.
In a pretty stunning move, Tiger Woods decided to put the new Nike VR_S Covert 3-wood in his bag for the Masters on Thursday.
I say stunning because, according to PGATour.com equipment expert Jonathan Wall (@jonathanrwall), this is the first time that Woods has ever played with the club in a competitive round.
Wall told me Woods' old 3-wood was a Nike VR Pro Limited Edition 3-wood.
And here's what Wall said on Wednesday about the rumors that Woods was going to go with the Covert 3-wood:
Saw @golfchannel report saying Tiger may put Nike VR_S Covert 3w in bag for Masters. I'd be shocked if he actually went with it this week.— Jonathan Wall (@jonathanrwall) April 10, 2013
Shocking, indeed. Especially given how notorious Woods is for wanting to thoroughly test everything that he plays with. It's strange for him to pick the first round of the Masters to try this new stick.
Woods was playing just fine with it, though. He parred his first three holes.
With his girlfriend following him to boot.
