Stone Canyon Golf Club in Arizona is set to host Capital One's The Match: Champions for Change on Friday, Nov. 27. The Match III will pit Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley against Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry. Mickelson won the inaugural match against Tiger Woods, but fell short against Woods and Manning in the last edition of Capital One's The Match.
Play is scheduled to get underway on Friday at 3 p.m. ET. The format for Friday's event will be modified alternate-shot match play. Manning and Curry are listed as the -170 favorites (risk $170 to win $100) in the latest Match III odds from William Hill Sportsbook, while Mickelson and Barkley are the underdogs, going off at +140 (risk $100 to win $140). Before locking in any bets, be sure to see The Match III picks and predictions from SportsLine's proven golf expert, Mike McClure.
McClure built SportsLine's renowned golf prediction model, which has nailed six golf majors entering the weekend. McClure's model has also been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June. In fact, it's up over $11,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
After nailing Sergio Garcia (+5500) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the Sanderson Farms Championship, McClure finished up over $6,200 yet again on his best bets. The model had him in the top five from the start and McClure's best bets included Garcia winning outright. Those who followed that advice saw a massive +5500 return!
He also hit a top-five bet (+1200) on Doc Redman at the Wyndham Championship, finishing up over $700 yet again on his best bets. The model was all over Dustin Johnson (8-5) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the Tour Championship and Justin Thomas winning the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at 12-1. And at the 3M Open, McClure's best bets returned a whopping $1,100 as he nailed a top-five pick on Max Homa (+1200) and a top-20 pick on Talor Gooch (+400). Anyone who has followed it is way up.
Now, with The Match 3 set to tee off on Friday afternoon, McClure has scoured the odds and picked a winner. You can only see which team to back at SportsLine.
Phil Mickelson, Charles Barkley vs. Peyton Manning, Stephen Curry preview
Mickelson should enter The Match 3 full of confidence, even with Barkley, who's unorthodox golf swing has been well documented, as his teammate. That's because Mickelson is extremely comfortable in this format, having played in each of the first two editions of The Match.
In addition, the 44-time PGA Tour champion has been playing extremely well in recent months. In fact, Mickelson has won each of his first two starts on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. He also played well at the Masters earlier this month, shooting under par in each of his first two rounds at Augusta National.
However, Mickelson knows his game will need to be in good shape with Manning and Curry set to form a formidable duo. Manning admitted his nerves got the best of him early, but he made some clutch shots down the stretch to help secure the victory for him and Woods in the last edition of The Match. Curry, meanwhile, is close to a scratch golfer and he should be comfortable in this format having played in the pro-am at the Safeway Open numerous times.
How to make Mickelson, Barkley vs. Manning, Curry picks
McClure has taken into account that Mickelson is clearly the best player, but is that enough to lift his team to victory against the more balanced pairing of Manning and Curry? You can only get his best bet for The Match III right here.
