Rory McIlroy will try to win his fifth career major when the 2023 PGA Championship tees off Thursday at Oak Hill Country Club. McIlroy already has two PGA Championship victories on his career resume, taking home his last Wanamaker Trophy in 2014 at Valhalla. The 34-year-old finished eighth at last year's PGA Championship, and enters the PGA Championship 2023 trying to snap out of a slump that led to missed cuts at the Players Championship and Masters. McIlroy (11-1) trails only co-betting favorites Jon Rahm (7-1) and Scottie Scheffler (7-1) in the latest 2023 PGA Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Other top contenders in the 2023 PGA Championship field include Rory McIlroy (11-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1), Patrick Cantlay (18-1), Dustin Johnson (20-1), Jason Day (20-1), and defending champion Justin Thomas (20-1)..

Which 2023 PGA Championship head-to-head matchup picks should you target, and what 2023 PGA Championship prop bets could set you up for a strong payday? Before locking in any PGA Championship 2023 picks of your own, be sure to check out the PGA predictions and betting advice from SportsLine golf expert Mike McClure.

Mike McClure's proprietary model at SportsLine has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,800 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included J.T. Poston in its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit at +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned almost $1,100. McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 longshot. It also nailed Jason Day's Byron Nelson victory, even though he hadn't won a PGA Tour event in five years.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has set his sights on the 2023 PGA Championship field and just revealed his top PGA prop bets. You can head to SportsLine now to see all of McClure's 2023 PGA Championship prop picks, sleepers, head-to-head matchups and best bets.

Top 2023 PGA Championship prop picks

One of McClure's favorite prop bet picks this week at the PGA Championship 2023 is Tony Finau finishing in the top 20 at +105 odds (risk $100 to win $105). Finau is searching for his first career major championship, but is coming off an impressive win at the Mexico Open at Vidanta in late April. The 33-year-old has been one of the hottest golfers on the planet over the last year, with four outright wins and 10 top-10 finishes since July.

Finau, who has been one of the longest hitters in the world for several years, has surged to No. 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking thanks in large part to his play with his irons. The six-time Tour winner ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach (1.108) and third in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.822) and total strokes gained (2.171). With the conditions at Oak Hill expected to favor golfers with Finau's skillset, McClure sees plenty of value in taking Finau to finish inside the top 20 and contend for his first career major championship at plus-money. You can see the rest of McClure's 2023 PGA Championship prop bet picks at SportsLine.

Top 2023 PGA Championship head-to-head matchup picks

Another shocking PGA Championship prop bet pick from McClure: Take Patrick Cantlay over Rory McIlroy in head-to-head golf betting at +102 odds. McIlroy enters the week as the No. 3 ranked player in the world and is nearly unbeatable when he is at the top of his game. That said, the four-time major champion has been in a slump in 2023, with missed cuts at the Players Championship and Masters. McIlroy is reportedly reworking his swing, which would suggest he's not a player to back heading into this week's PGA Championship 2023.

On the flip side, Cantlay is playing some of the best, most consistent golf of his professional career. The 31-year-old has surged to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking and has has nine top-25 finishes and four top-fives in 11 total starts in 2023. McClure has zeroed in on Cantlay as one of his 2023 PGA Championship top contenders and sees plenty of value in taking him to beat McIlroy head-to-head for a plus money payout. You can see who else to back at the PGA Championship here.
