PGA Tour Expert Picks: Players Championship

Finally, another big boy tournament. It feels like it's been a while since the Masters and we've only got a sampling of Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, and the rest of the stars on the PGA Tour. They'll all be in attendance this weekend for golf's richest purse

The Players Championship is played in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. at the famous TPC Sawgrass. It's not the oldest tournament on tour (started in 1974) but it is one of the most prestigious and, as I mentioned above, the most lucrative.

I heard the greens there were..

Yep, not pretty but I think they'll be good to go by game time:

The tournament will take place May 8-11 and the purse is $10 million. You can watch on Thursday and Friday (May 8-9) on Golf Channel from 1-7 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-2 PM on Golf Channel and from 2-7 PM on NBC.

You can also watch the broadcast online at all four days. Featured groups will be shown on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 AM-6 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 AM-6:30 PM. Featured holes will be shown on Thursday and Friday from 9 AM-7PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 12-7 PM.

You will be able to watch the famous Island Hole (No. 17) on that featured holes stream.

Expert picks

Adam Scott (14-1): Scott hasn't performed greatly here recently (two top 20s in his last five starts) but I think the allure of becoming No. 1 (a top 16 will do it) will propel him to the top of the leaderboard. He might not take home the crown but I bet he's prominently featured on Sunday afternoon.

Lock for top 10

Sergio Garcia (20-1): Garcia is in good form right now and he played well here last year for 72 holes. This hasn't been his greatest tournament but he's as big a star as anyone in the field and this tournament seems to produce star winners quite regularly.

Ryan Palmer (80-1): Four missed cuts and a top five in his last five starts here [throws hands up in air at the prospect of wagering on golf]. Finished seventh in Houston and lost in a playoff at the Honda Classic before that so he's been decent this year. I like the 80-1 odds.
