PGA Tour Expert Picks: The Barclays

This week marks the first of a four-week FedEx Cup Playoff whirlwind and the first stop towards that $10 million prize

Let's take a look at The Barclays.

A tournament that used to be known as The Westchester, this stop has been part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs every year since 2007. This season The Barclays will be played at Ridgewood Country Club for the first time since 2010 when Matt Kuchar won.

The Club is located in Paramus, N.J., and according to its website "inspiration for Ridgewood’s clubhouse design was the similarity between the landscape of northern France and the landscape of northern New Jersey. Hence the Norman style clubhouse with tower and porches."

In other words, it's beautiful.

The tournament will take place Aug. 21-24 and the purse is $8 million.

You can watch Thursday and Friday (Aug. 21-22) on Golf Channel from 2-6 p.m. ET and on Saturday (Aug. 23) on Golf Channel from 1-2:30 p.m. and on CBS from 3-6 p.m. On Sunday (Aug. 24) you can watch on Golf Channel from 12-1:30 p.m. and on CBS from 2-6 p.m.

You can also watch featured groups online at on all four days from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and a simulcast on Saturday from 3-6 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-6 p.m.

All times Eastern

Participants and odds

McIlroy at 4-1 is craziness; that's a territory where only Tiger Woods in recent years has taken up room and board. Rory is also trying to become just the fifth golfer ever to win four straight PGA Tour events

Former champions

2011 -- Dustin Johnson
2010 -- Matt Kuchar
2009 -- Heath Slocum

Expert picks

Jim Furyk (28-1): Furyk has experienced plenty of success in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, even winning in 2010. He's second all-time in money earned in the playoffs ($13 million) next to Tiger Woods ($25 million), and even though he struggled at Ridgewood in 2010 (T122), he's been too hot of late to ignore.

Lock for top 10

Rory McIlroy (4-1): What's left to say? He finished T56 at this course in 2010, but I don't really care if he shot a pair of 90s and finished DFL by 38 strokes, with the way he's playing right now I'd take him as a lock for the top 10 at any tournament on any continent at any time.

Graham DeLaet (66-1): Top 10s in each of his last two Barclays appearances, and while I know those took place on different courses, it appears the Canadian enjoys peaking at this time of the season. He's (somehow) still looking for win No. 1 on the PGA Tour, and coming off a top 15 at the PGA Championship and a top 10 at the Canadian Open. I like him at Ridgewood.
