No, really: The handshake between Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia happened. And Golf Channel has the video (from which the still shot above was taken) to prove it.

Woods and Garcia met on the driving range at Merion West (golfers practice on the West course and play on the East course this week) and shook hands. Neither seemed in the talking mood afterward, though, as both have press conferences on Tuesday.

Woods and Garcia had a well-publicized dustup at the Players Championship last month that escalated into a full-blown controversy three weeks ago when Garcia, responding to a question about whether he would have Woods over for dinner during the US Open, replied: "We will have him 'round every night. We will serve fried chicken."

ESPN reported Woods was curt with his reply on what was said during the handshake: "I'm not going there," he said. Last month, Woods called Garcia's "fried chicken" comment "wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate." Garcia apologized for the remark.

The ESPN article also referenced Garcia's comments three weeks ago about how he was going to handle the situation:

"We talked to his manager and asked him if he wanted us to call Tiger, or wait for Merion and do it there face to face," Garcia said. "And they said they would rather do it there. There's nothing we can do, so we'll wait until we get there and we'll talk."

They did talk on Monday -- kind of, apparently. Hopefully, we will know more Tuesday after they both speak to the media.
