Augusta National had to evacuate the Par 3 course twice on Wednesday -- once before the event began – due to inclement weather and wound up closing the course for the remainder of the day less than one hour into the Par 3 Contest, an annual tradition at the Masters.

Only two players, Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson, completed the nine-hole Par 3 course before play was suspended, and the course was closed for the day as a second wave of storms in a large cell moving across the southeast United States rolled through.

Mike Weir and Brendan Steele were tied for the lead at the time the contest was ended, both at 3-under par.

Strong thunderstorms are on the forecast through the night but will be gone by Thursday morning, leaving cool and windy conditions (15-25 mph winds) for Round 1. Wind will be a huge factor for the first two days but is expected to die down as temperatures rise heading into a sunny weekend as the field narrows and the race to be the 81st Masters champion heats up.

SportsLine’s projection model has the 2017 Masters leaderboard figured out, including an upset pick you definitely want to see before it begins on Thursday.
