Best match -- Had to be Graeme McDowell over Hunter Mahan 1 UP in 21 holes. Mahan led by two thru 16 and McDowell said afterward he thought it was over at that point. A par-birdie finish kept him alive, however, and he closed on the 21st hole.

Worst match -- Louis Oosthuizen over Webb Simpson 5 and 4. It wasn't even as close as the score indicates.

Best shot -- This from Graeme McDowell for par at the 20th hole to extend the match:

Stat of the day -- Graeme McDowell has led zero of his 54 regulation holes but has somehow advanced to the quarterfinals. Trailed by three thru 15 in his first round, trailed by two thru 15 in the second round, and trailed by two thru 16 in round three. Wow.

Strangest development -- Sergio Garcia conceded a 17-foot putt to Rickie Fowler. No, not a typo. Yes, it was very strange.

Biggest upset -- Rickie Fowler (No. 14 seed) over Sergio Garcia (No. 2 seed).

Quote of the day -- Might be a quote of the year candidate. Fowler on Sergio concession:

Quote of the day II -- "I've just robbed three players at this tournament and I can't believe I'm still in it." -Graeme McDowell

"Yep, we're definitely in Arizona" moment -- This from Fowler:

Best quarterfinal match -- They're all pretty good but I'm pretty excited about Jason Day vs. Louis Oosthuizen. When they're playing well they're probably two of the eight or 10 best golfers in the world.
