This is happening, folks. This is really happening. Tiger Woods followed up his 64 in the first round with a 65 in the second. He co-leads the Wyndham Championship with Tom Hoge after 36 holes in Greensboro, N.C.

Woods will play in the final group with Hoge on Saturday. He hasn't played in the final group on a weekend since the Bridgestone Invitational in 2013 (which he won). So the sports story of the weekend as football sits on deck is whether Tiger can win for the 80th time on the PGA Tour. But first, let's look back on how he got here.

Tiger had a bumpy first nine that included an opening-hole bogey. He ended up shooting 34 before the fireworks started on the back nine. Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 were followed by a big boy eagle on the 15th to tie Hoge. The shot he hit into the par-5 15th was a monster.

Woods closed with three straight pars and sits at 11 under after 36 holes along with Hoge.

"It was a grind today," Woods told Golf Channel's Todd Lewis. "I didn't quite hit it as good as I did yesterday. I couldn't quite get my iron game where I was underneath the hole to where I could get some nice firm looks, but I hung in there with my speed and ended up OK."

That's a classic Woods move. Shoot 65 and downplay the effort. He probably left a few strokes out there as well. It's hard to overstate how locked in Woods was all day. He was barely watching his tee shots land.

He sits in 15th in strokes gained putting but a stunning 5th (!) in strokes gained tee to green.

"It's just part of the process," said Woods. "I wasn't quite as strong as I was yesterday, but my speed was pretty good today."

Woods has been buoyed all week by the legions of fans walking the grounds in Greensboro. He tipped his hat, metaphorically anyway, to them on Friday evening.

"It's been incredible. The people here have been just fantastic. It's a very intimate atmosphere out there. They've stuck out there in the heat and have been so supportive of myself and Hideki and Brooksie."

Hideki (Matsuyama) and Brooks Koepka (Brooksie) were Woods playing partners for the first two days of the tournament. On Saturday, he'll be paired with the other guy at 11 under, Tom Hoge. Wait, who is that? Well, he's not much compared to the Big Cat.

So this weekend is now must watch television. Woods is gunning for a win or solo second-place finish to get into the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The winning score is likely to be 20 under or better so there will be more fireworks.

Woods isn't concerned about any of that though.

"I just have to take it one day at a time. I want to win this tournament. I came here to win it and right now I'm in good shape.
