The PGA Tour returns to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. this week for the first time since Matthew Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Amateur in 2013. One of McClure's favorite 2022 U.S. Open prop bets this week is Will Zalatoris to finish in the top 10 on the final leaderboard at +330 odds. The 25-year-old is still fairly new to the PGA Tour, but he has already established himself as one of the best major championship golfers in the world. Zalatoris finished sixth at the 2022 Masters and came extremely close to winning his first career PGA Tour event at the 2022 PGA Championship, where he lost in a three-hole playoff to eventual winner Justin Thomas.
Zalatoris is elite in several key metrics that should come into play this week at The Country Club. He ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach (0.974), second in strokes gained tee to green (1.797), sixth in strokes gained off the tee (0.717), and 10th in total strokes gained (1.570).
2022 U.S. Open head-to-head picks
One of McClure's favorite bets this week is Dustin Johnson over Daniel Berger at -130 odds. Johnson has been the talk of the golf world after his controversial decision to resign from the PGA Tour and to join LIV Golf. He will be back in action this week in Brookline and McClure is expecting the 2016 U.S. Open champion to contend for his third career major title.
Johnson hadn't been playing particularly well when he announced his decision to join LIV Golf, but his skill off the tee and elite approach game are strong indicators he will find success at The Country Club.
