WATCH: Cody Gribble nearly holes out albatross at CJ Cup at Nine Bridges
The left-hander from Texas had a tap-in eagle in Korea on Friday
Cody Gribble is T74 after two days at the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges, which sounds alright until you realize that there are only 78 players in the field this week in South Korea. Gribble shot a 73-81 over the first two rounds, but his 81 was highlighted (if you can call it that) with this near-albatross at the par-5 18th hole on Jeju Island.
Gribble almost holed out from the fairway after pummeling his drive on the 568-yard hole. At first watch, I didn't think his ball was going to come that close, but it kept turning and turning, and just scooted past the cup.
Of course, he followed that up with a quintuple bogey and double bogey in two of his next three holes en route to the 81. The CJ Cup is a no-cut event, though, so Gribble is still guaranteed at least a portion of the $9.5 million purse just for showing up this weekend.
