WATCH: Kevin Na drains eagle hole-out, Cameron Smith leads CIMB Classic
Na took four shots to play two straight holes on the back nine on Thursday
Kevin Na is T5 at the CIMB Classic after 18 holes of play on Thursday, and he was aided by this 116-yard hole-out eagle on the 16th hole. It was a rare chance for a 2-2 on the scorecard after he made birdie at the par-3 15th to get to 5 under. Na finished the day at 6 under overall after making a bogey coming home, but he's just two back of leader Cameron Smith after Round 1.
"I had 116 yards to the hole. My 54-degree flies probably 110 max," said Na. "I know it's running away, pitching away so I had to give it a couple yards extra. Flew it probably 112, 113 and one-hopped. I couldn't see it, but the group on the other tee, they started going nuts so I knew it was in the hole."
Na was asked after the round how he can take the momentum into the final 54 holes.
"Game plan? Keep shooting 6 under and I think I'll be all right," he said.
I think so, too.
