If you think the BCS is (was) an inexact science then you probably won't enjoy our first power rankings of 2014.

With so few golfers having played a real tournament in the last six weeks, it's tough to sort through the mess but we did have one pretty star-studded tournament in Hawaii to use as a baseline.

Zach Johnson and his "big pair" find themselves at the top of the first rankings of 2014. Not only for holding off Jordan Spieth in Kapalua but also because he just put Tiger Woods in his place at the Northwestern Mutual Challenge in December.

The rest of my top 10 is a mishmash of golfers who played the Tournament of Champions and golfers who ended 2013 on a high note.

Here they are:

1 Zach Johnson -- His friends call him the "Tiger Woods of Iowa." He's the "Tiger Woods of the last month" right now in golf.
2 Jordan Spieth -- I have officially removed his ceiling. There isn't one. The only golfer who has had more top 10s than Spieth through his first 25 events is Tiger. No other contemporary is close.
3 Henrik Stenson -- It's crazy that the guy who finished 2013 on a $20 million run could be considered third in anything but he needs to play first in 2014 for me to move him ahead of Spieth or Johnson.
4 Tiger Woods -- He could not play until the Masters and probably still hold a spot in the top 10. If he doesn't finish in the top 10 at Torrey Pines in three weeks that will be a huge disappointment.
5 Adam Scott -- Australia's king will play the Sony Open this week and then take off until March. That's okay, his near-trifecta in Australia in December is enough to hold his place in here for a while.
6 Jason Dufner -- If there was any doubt if Oak Hill was a fluke (and I don't think there was) he's going to disprove it. Could have easily won the Tournament of Champions. He'll get another shot next year.
7 Webb Simpson -- We could have had our story of the year quite early in 2014 if Simpson could have won the Tournament of Champions for his caddie (and his caddie's son). Still a T3 is nothing to joke about with that field. He's quietly building a great career.
8 Sergio Garcia -- Is this the year (haven't we been saying that for the last 10 years)? Garcia finished 2013 scorching hot and is in the world top 10 again for the first time since 2009.
9 Brandt Snedeker -- Another guy who has done pretty much everything but win a major. The Masters is his white whale.
10 Matt Kuchar -- Feels like a make or break next two years for him in the majors. I think he can win Augusta with the way he's playing.
