Although his team still has the postseason to play, Markus Robinson of Finney (Penfield, N.Y.) looks to become the first freshman to ever lead the nation in scoring.

Robinson scored 49 points in a regular-season loss Thursday to Northstar Christian Academy and is averaging 45.5 points per game (20 for 911 points). Robinson leads second-place Tommy Murr of Lindsay Lane Christian Academy (Athens, Ala.), who averaged 44.3 points per game. Murr's season has ended. Finney will likely make the playoffs, which start next week.

The New Yorker averaged 25.8 points per game as an eighth-grader last year and already has more than 1,000 career points.

While several sophomores have led the nation in scoring over the past 70 years, Robinson would be the first freshman. ...
