The Boston Red Sox owned a 1.5-game lead over Tampa Bay in the American League East when they visited the Rays for a three-game series that began on July 30. However, Boston was swept in that set and proceeded to lose six of its next eight contests to fall five games behind Tampa Bay for first place. The Red Sox look to reduce their deficit when they host the Rays for the middle contest of their three-game set on Wednesday. Should you expect Boston to end their six-game losing streak in the season series, or is there value on Tampa Bay to record its sixth straight overall victory and bring a return on the money line?

The latest MLB odds for Wednesday from Caesars Sportsbook list the Red Sox as -115 favorites (risk $115 to win $100) on the money line. Other MLB lines of note include the Oakland Athletics at -145 against the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers at -115 versus the Baltimore Orioles. Before making any MLB picks or predictions on those games or others, you need to see what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

Top MLB picks for Wednesday, Aug. 11

The model likes the Los Angeles Dodgers at -135 on the money line against the Philadelphia Phillies.  Los Angeles, which trails first-place San Francisco by four games in the NL West, has won three consecutive contests both overall and on the road. It began a six-game East Coast trip by ending Philadelphia's eight-game winning streak with a 5-0 triumph in Tuesday's series opener. The Dodgers belted a pair of home runs in the victory to increase their season total to 156, which ranks third in the NL and fifth in the majors.

Max Muncy may have rediscovered his power stroke, as he hit his team-leading 23rd homer on Tuesday to end his 13-game drought. Philadelphia right-hander Kyle Gibson (8-3, 2.79 ERA), who has kept the ball in the park in each of his last three starts, has allowed three runs over 12 2/3 innings while winning both of his turns since being acquired from Texas but has struggled against Los Angeles in his career. The 33-year-old has lost both of his outings versus the Dodgers, surrendering 10 runs on 14 hits and seven walks in 11 2/3 frames. In addition, the Phillies are just 3-8 in their last 11 meetings against the Dodgers.
