ALCS Game 4 postponed, will be played 4:07 p.m. ET Thursday
Game 4 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Tigers has been postponed.
DETROIT -- Because a pretty significant weather system is moving in, Game 4 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Tigers has been postponed. It was called before the rain ever started. The necessary preparations were underway when the announcement was made an a one-hour, 10-minute delay ...
Rain did start falling about 15 minutes after the postponement was announced.
Game 4 has been rescheduled for Thursday at 4:07 p.m. ET. On that front (get it?), it's worth noting that the forecast for Thursday and Friday isn't especially promising ...
Worth noting: The Tigers and rain/non-rain delays in the ALCS is pretty familiar. After Game 1 of the 2011 ALCS at Texas was delayed twice for a total of 1 hour, 50 minutes, Game 2 was called off well before the scheduled first pitch because of the ominous forecast. But it never rained.
"A lot of people were pretty upset that Verlander didn't get to finish his start," Detroit catcher Alex Avila said of those 2011 postponements. "So, I think people would be pretty upset if they didn't get to see Scherzer and Sabathia finish their starts as well. Major League Baseball is trying to protect not only the pitchers, but also play a clean game without having to stop and stuff like that."
There's no immediate word on what time a possible Game 5 would be played Friday -- which was a scheduled off-day for travel -- if that game is necessary.
But, again, given the chances of rain the next few days, the entire series schedule is up in the air.
