Alex Rodriguez undergoes successful surgery, facing six-month recovery
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has undergone successful surgery on his left hip and is now facing a lengthy recovery period.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has undergone successful surgery on his injured left hip, the team announced on Twitter. Rodriguez is scheduled to be released from the hospital Thursday and begin what's expected to be a six-month recovery period. If he's able to adhere to that schedule, he should be able to return in time for the second half of the 2013 season.
Rodriguez, 37, is coming off a season in which he batted .272/.353/.430 with 18 home runs in 122 games. He's fifth on the all-time home runs list with 647. Obligatory: A-Rod still has five years and at least $116 million left on his contract.
While Rodriguez is out, Kevin Youkilis will serve as the Yankees' regular third baseman.
