Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis will undergo exploratory left shoulder surgery next Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.

The procedure will formally close the door on Travis' return this season, with the Blue Jays hoping to have him back for the start of spring training in 2016. Travis was a leading candidate for AL Rookie of the Year honors after huge month of April, but injury issues compromised those efforts. The second baseman finishes the year with a .304/.361/.498 batting line to go along with eight homers, 35 RBI, and 38 runs scored.
