The Blue Jays and Padres are eyeing Japanese middle infielder and unrestricted free agent Takashi Toritani, but he could also remain in his native country, per CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The Jays have an opening at second base while the Padres would use Toritani at shortstop. He has played in 1,444 consecutive games in Japan with a strong slash line of .285/.372/.412. He had been playing for the Hanshin Tigers.
