Blue Jays place Edwin Encarnacion on 15-day DL
The Blue Jays have placed Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list with a quad injury. He expects to only miss a few weeks.
The Blue Jays have placed first baseman Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad, the club announced Monday. As a corresponding move, recently-acquired Nolan Reimold was activated.
Encarnacion went down with the injury Saturday. Though it actually looked pretty bad at the time, Encarnacion has told reporters he only expects to miss about two weeks (via sportsnet.ca) -- so he's shooting for the minimum 15 days. Keep in mind, Encarnacion could serve as a DH upon his return, as he does on occasion.
Encarnacion, 31, was named to the All-Star team Sunday, but he'll obviously need to be replaced now. He's hitting .277/.368/.591 (158 OPS+) with 21 doubles, 26 homers and 70 RBI this season.
Reimold, 30, is a career .252/.327/.439 hitter with 41 homers in 936 at-bats across five different seasons. He previously only played for the Orioles and was recently claimed off waivers by Toronto.
