Brandon Belt on Dodgers: 'Can't buy chemistry'

Belt rubs it in that he got to do this last October while the Dodgers didn't. (US Presswire)

The Giants-Dodgers rivalry is so intense it doesn't need extra fuel added to the proverbial fire. Still, it happens on occasion, and Monday brought us a glorious quote.

When asked about the big-spending Dodgers, here was Giants first baseman Brandon Belt's reply (via CSN Bay Area): “All I can say is, you can’t buy chemistry.”

Boom. I believe that's when we say shots fired.

The Giants beat the Dodgers by eight games last season, winning the NL West and then, of course, going on to capture their second World Series title in the past three seasons. The Dodgers now sport a robust payroll of well over $200 million and have expectations of winning the World Series this season. So it's going to be a fun rivalry anyway, but quotes like Belt's make it better.

Even better: The Giants and Dodgers open the season with a three-game series against each other. On the downside, opening day isn't until April 1. Today is Feb. 11. Damn.
