Braves will get Ervin Santana soon
Ervin Santana could be joining the Braves' rotation as soon as April 9. He's set to make his last minor-league tune-up this Friday.
The Braves starting rotation is nearing some reinforcements. With both Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy out for the season following Tommy John surgery, the rotation is a bit of a patchwork job right now, but Ervin Santana will soon be back while Mike Minor and Gavin Floyd don't appear to be far away, either.
Santana is scheduled to throw either five or six innings for Triple-A Gwinnett Friday (ajc.com) and that might be the last outing he needs before being up to speed enough to join the big-league Braves. So it's feasible that he could start April 9. He's not dealing with an injury, but Santana needed extra time to get ready due to the fact that he didn't sign with the Braves until March 12.
Minor and Floyd are both scheduled to throw three innings Friday in minor-league action, per aj.com -- so while they aren't far off, they aren't quite as close to returning as Santana is. Minor dealt with shoulder tendinitis this spring while Floyd is coming back from Tommy John surgery.
