Brewers to unveil Bob Uecker statue inspired by Miller Lite commercial
Remember the famous Bob Uecker 'must be on the front row' commercial? It's about to become a statue at Miller Park.
Regarding the blessed union of this, our baseball and this, our alcohol -- two essential components of The Good Life -- the Miller Lite commercial to follow is indubitably one of the finest moments in the history of the pairing ...
Now comes word that Bob Uecker -- board-certified national treasure -- will get another statue at Miller Park, this one dedicated to the classic TV spot you see above.
From the team's press release:
The Milwaukee Brewers today announced details for Friday’s unveiling of the new Bob Uecker statue at Miller Park. Unlike the statues that surround Miller Park’s Home Plate Plaza, this statue will be in the last row—yes, the last row of the Terrace Level at Miller Park.
The statue will pay tribute to the popular Miller Lite “All Stars” ad campaign which featured Uecker’s famous tagline, “I must be in the front row.” In those commercials, Uecker somehow always ended up in the last row—as will this statue. The statue will sit atop the Uecker Seats in Miller Park’s Terrace Level (Section 422).
We'll presumably get a look at the genuine article on Friday, but my hope is that the bronze rendering will capture Mr. Uecker -- refreshing, sating concessions in hand -- as he alerts the umpire to the missed tag far, far below him.
Regardless, let us now praise this very good idea.
