Brewers trade OF Nori Aoki to Royals for LHP Will Smith

The Brewers have traded outfielder Norichika Aoki to the Royals in exchange for lefty Will Smith. The Brewers announced the trade on Thursday morning. 

Aoki, age 31, owns a batting line of .287/.355/.399 (103 OPS+) across two major-league seasons. He's capable of playing all three outfield positions, and he's stolen 50 bases in 70 attempts. He'll provide the Royals with some needed outfield depth and on-base skills from the left side of the plate. "Nori is a true professional and performed very well as a member of the Brewers," said Brewers GM Doug Melvin in a statement released by the team. "This was a tough call because of what he brought to our organization on the field and in the clubhouse."

As for Smith, the 24-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.76 in 123 innings across two major-league seasons. However, Smith worked almost exclusively as a reliever in 2013, and he boasts a career ERA of 2.45 and a K/BB ratio of 6.33 when working out of the bullpen.
