Cardinals a new entry in Dempster talks; Dodgers, Nats, others still in
The rival Cardinals are showing interest in Cubs righthander Ryan Dempster.
The Cardinals are a seemingly late-entry in the Ryan Dempster sweepstakes, joining the Dodgers, Nationals, Braves and perhaps the Tigers.
The rival Cardinals would be interesting in that they are the team due to face the Cubs righthander Friday night in St. Louis. The Cards have been weighing whether to go after a starter or a reliever.
Interest appears to be heating up in Dempster, whose run of 33 straight scoreless innings gave thought to the idea the Cubs might trade him Friday, before he has a chance to spoil that streak. While the Dodgers have been seen as the favorite, several other teams are in the hunt now.
Dempster has veto powers on trades, which may complicate things. He is believed willing to at least go to the Dodgers.
