The Cardinals have activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday. Adams has been out of action since undergoing surgery to repair a quad injury in late May.

Adams left a game on May 26 when he initially sustained the injury. In 43 games prior to going down, Adams was batting .241 (35 for 144) with four homers and 20 RBI.

Initially, Adams will be used as a pinch-hitter off the bench until he is cleared to play in the field, according to MLB.com.
