Garcia went seven innings and allowed his lone run in the first inning. He struck out four batters, walked none and surrendered three hits. It was a strong performance but one that saw no run support from his offense.
"He had a great sinker today and his slider was probably as sharp as we've seen it," Matheny said of Garcia, per MLB.com. "He mixed in the curveball and changeup enough, but just late, hard movement at the bottom of the zone turns into the ability to throw less than 90 pitches through seven. That's pretty rare stuff."
Garcia is now 1-2 with an ERA of 2.70.
His next start is projected for Saturday against the Dodgers.
