BOSTON -- The umpires for the 109th World Series have been named, with crew chief John Hirschbeck leading the way.

Hirschbeck will be behind the plate for Game 1, as is customary with crew chiefs before the umpires shuffle for the ensuing games. This will be his fourth World Series and second as the crew chief. He was also the crew chief in 2010.

Mark Wegner will be at first base in Game 1 and this is his first World Series.

At second in Game 1 is Dana DeMuth, who is working his fifth Fall Classic.

Paul Emmel will man third in Game 1, and he's also making his first appearance.

Making his second World Series appearance, Bill Miller will be on the left-field line in Game 1 while Jim Joyce -- his third World Series -- will have right-field duty.

So I'm guessing most fans will be happy. Among the names we didn't see above: Angel Hernandez, Joe West, Bob Davidson, C.B. Bucknor.
