Chris Rusin throws no-hitter for Cubs' Triple-A affiliate
Let's doff our caps to lefty Chris Rusin, who made a bit of history down on the farm on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Cubs minor-leaguer Chris Rusin twirled a no-hitter for Triple-A Iowa in their game against the Marlins' Pacific Coast League affiliate in New Orleans. On the day, Rusin struck out three and walked two. He threw 118 pitches in the course of Iowa's 3-0 victory. Rusin's no-no was the first in the hitter-friendly PCL since 2009.
As you're about to see, the final out was not without some drama ...
That was Matt Szczur with the history-saving catch.
The 27-year-old Rusin has 101 major-league innings to his credit (4.71 career ERA in MLB), all for the Cubs, who drafted him out of the University of Kentucky in 2009 with a fourth-round pick.
On April 12 of this year, Rusin worked five innings of relief against the Cardinals and allowed only one run on three hits.
