Major League Baseball wrapped its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday night. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.

With the 23rd overall pick, the Indians selected prep shortstop Carson Tucker, who is the younger brother of Cole, an infielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This Tucker has a broad base of skills, and he has enough arm strength and speed to stick at short. He's committed to Texas, but figures to be signable.

The Indians' overall draft class earned a B grade from our experts:

Good value throughout for the Indians. First rounder Carson Tucker was a hot name leading up to the draft and he's a potential impact shortstop at the next level. Competitive Balance Round A pick Tanner Burns was one of the best and most accomplished pitchers in the draft class, and second rounder Logan Allen is exactly the kind of pitcher the Indians tend to take to the next level through player development. Cleveland is really corning the market on Logan Allens (Logans Allen?).
