Complete list of four-homer games in Major League Baseball history
Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton achieved a feat more rare than a perfect game Tuesday night in a Rangers win over the Orioles. His 5-4-5-8 line was ridiculous enough without looking closer at the five hits. He hit four home runs. It has only happened 16 times in major-league history. Here's a list with the all 16 of them.
|4 Homers in a game|
|Hamilton becomes the 16th player, and only the sixth in AL history, to hit four home runs in a game.|
|Carlos Delgado||Blue Jays||9/25/03|
|Pat Seerey||White Sox||7/18/48|
In addition to this feat, Hamilton set an American League record with 18 total bases, as his fifth hit was a double. It was the most total bases in a major-league game since Shawn Green of the Dodgers collected 19 in 2002.
Hamilton is now hitting .406 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI in 30 games.
Hamilton won the AL MVP in 2010, when he hit .359/.411/.633 with 32 homers, 100 RBI and 95 runs in just 133 games. He's certainly headed to his fifth straight All-Star Game this summer.
Tuesday night marked the fifth time in Hamilton's career that he hit more than one home run in a game, but he'd never hit three in a game before -- let alone four.
One last stat of note: Hamilton entered Tuesday night with four career homers in Camden Yards, so he doubled the total in one night.
Hamilton, 30, is a free agent after this season.
