David Ortiz not a fan of Red Sox schedule
The Red Sox are coming off a stretch of 20 games in 20 days and had a night game in Seattle Wednesday before their cross-country travel to New York for Friday's game. David Ortiz is unhappy about this.
The Red Sox lost to the Yankees, 6-0, Friday night. It dropped the defending champs to a 36-44 record and they remained (thanks to a Toronto loss) 7.5 games out of first place in the AL East.
After the game, David Ortiz voiced his displeasure with the Boston schedule, via WEEI.com:
"The schedule we have is just unbelievable," Ortiz said. "It's pretty bad, man. It's pretty bad. I'm not using that as an excuse, but we're human and we go everywhere to play, right? In my 18-year career I've never seen that. The schedule is we had to play the last game on the West Coast in a night game and then have to travel. It's pretty bad. You have to do something about that at some point. It doesn't help."
The Red Sox did play a night game in Seattle on Wednesday night before having to fly to New York City for this series against the Yankees, but they had an off-day on Thursday. Prior to that, their last off day was June 5, so they had a string of 20 straight days with games.
After two more games against the Yankees, the Red Sox return home for a 10-game homestand against the Cubs, Orioles and White Sox.
