Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, as part of the pregame tributes, remembrances and celebrations before Saturday's game against the Royals, was handed the microphone for a speech. What he said was standard and fitting stuff for a time, but then Ortiz submitted to what can be characterized as a "moment of striking candor."

By that we mean 37-year-old Ortiz used a word that probably would've gotten 12-year-old Ortiz in serious trouble -- "Suck for a while on this bar of Lifebuoy," kind of trouble. Before we point you to the footage of his speech, a word of warning: therein lies NSFW profanity. OK, with that warning -- that a naughty word will be uttered -- laid out, here's the YouTube link.

"It just came out," Ortiz said after the game of his choice in words. "If i offended anyone, I apologize."

So, appropriately defiant or not fit for a family occasion such as a weekend day game?
