Dempster talks move to the final day with things still in a staredown
The Cubs and Dodgers have been talking about Ryan Dempster for a month now. Today is the day it has to happen -- if it happens.
The Dodgers probably see themselves as having the upper hand in negotiations since Dempster has made clear he only would approve a trade to Los Angeles, so with that in mind they've offered two pitching prospects the Cubs don't covet. The Cubs have sought right-handed pitching prospect Allen Webster for Dempster.
If there's been movement in the last few days, it is very incremental.
There also had been an attempt to pair Alfonso Soriano with Dempster but with the Dodgers likely to acquire Shane Victorino, they'd be out of the Soriano mix.
