The Dodgers are likely to activate Hanley Ramirez off the 15-day DL on Tuesday, manager Don Mattingly confirmed on Monday. Ramirez came through his three-game, minor-league rehab assignment just fine.

Ramirez, 29, has been limited to only four games this season due to thumb and hamstring injuries. He suffered the thumb problem diving for a ball during the World Baseball Classic and required surgery, then hurt his hamstring running the bases almost immediately after coming off the DL in late April.

In those four games between injuries, Ramirez went 5 for 11 with two doubles and a home run. The Dodgers have gotten almost no production from the left side of their infield this season -- their shortstops and third baseman are hitting a combined .202/.283/.279 in 448 plate appearances -- so Ramirez should provide a big boost regardless if he plays short or third.

The Dodgers are still without Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford, both of whom are on the DL with hamstring problems. Highly-touted outfield prospect Yasiel Puig was called up to give the team a shot in the arm on Monday, which he did during his debut.

Los Angeles sits in last place in the NL West at 24-32. The Dodgers on Tuesday will face the Padres and left-hander Clayton Richard, against whom Ramirez is 9 for 10 with a double in his career.
