Gallardo scratched from Sunday's start, questionable for WBC
Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo has been scratched from Sunday's start and is questionable for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo has been scratched from Sunday's start due to groin tightness, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel. His status for Team Mexico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic is up in the air.
"We're going to be cautious with him," said manager Ron Roenicke. "That's why we're doing what we're doing. We're making sure he's 100 percent before he goes [to the WBC] ... We need to test to be sure he's 100 percent before he goes to the Classic. If he's not ready, he's not going to pitch in it."
Gallardo, 27, will throw a bullpen session on Sunday. If that goes well, he'll throw an inning with the Brewers on Tuesday. If that also goes well, he'll join Team Mexico. Gallardo went 16-9 with a 3.66 ERA for Milwaukee last year and is slated to serve as Mexico's ace.
