BOSTON -- Down three games-to-two in the best-of-seven ALCS, Game 6 is a literal must-win for the Tigers. They've got the right guy on the mound in likely AL Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, but he worked himself into a big jam by walking Xander Bogaerts and Jacoby Ellsbury (the No. 9 and 1 hitters) to open the third inning.

The Red Sox kinda shot themselves in the foot by asking Shane Victorino to bunt -- he popped it up on the infield and Scherzer made a nice sliding catch -- but Dustin Pedroia almost took him off the hook with a monster shot to left field. Almost. Here's how close Pedroia's blast was to a three-run home run:

Look at the shadow of the ball on the foul pole. I can't imagine that's more than 12 inches away from a three-run dinger. He just, just missed it. And, to give you an idea of how important this game is for the Tigers, look at Scherzer's reaction when he saw the ball leave the bat:

Yeah, that pretty much sums things up for the Tigers. Pedroia grounded into an inning-ending 5-5-3 double play a few pitches later. Exhale, Tigers fans.
