Indians starting pitcher Scott Kazmir has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right rib cage strain, the club announced Thursday afternoon. An MRI revealed the results. The Indians say the injury is not serious and should only cost Kazmir two to three starts.

The news came just two days after the Indians revealed Kazmir had been shut down.

The big news here, however, is that the Indians have named Trevor Bauer as Saturday's starting pitcher against the Rays. It's entirely possible this is the only start Bauer makes before being sent back down.

Bauer, 22, was 12-2 with a 2.42 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 157 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings in 22 starts among Double-A and Triple-A last season in the Diamondbacks organization. His four big-league starts for Arizona did not go well (1-2, 6.06), in part due to his refusal to make adjustments along with catcher Miguel Montero.

Bauer has since vowed to change and is with a new ballclub, by way of the three-way trade that sent Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds. This spring for the Indians, Bauer was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 14 innings.

He is still considered a top-15 prospect in all of baseball.
