Jered Weaver set to rejoin Angels on Wednesday or Thursday
The Angels, winners of seven straight games, will welcome ace right-hander Jered Weaver back to the rotation in the middle of the week.
Weaver, 30, has been sidelined since early April with a fracture in his left (non-pitching) elbow. He threw 75 pitches across 5 2/3 innings in an extended spring training game last Wednesday, and it appears that will be his only minor-league tuneup before being activated.
The Halos have won seven straight games to climb into third place in the AL West, thanks in large part to a rotation that has surrendered just nine runs (1.76 ERA) and 57 base runners (1.24 WHIP) in those seven wins. Saturday's starter, Billy Buckner, has already been designated for assignment, so Weaver can slot right into his rotation spot.
In other rotation news, right-hander Tommy Hanson threw 75 pitches in five innings during a simulated game on Saturday. He has not pitched since May 4 due to the death of his step-brother. DiGiovanna said Hanson could rejoin the rotation late next week.
The Angels came into Sunday's action with a disappointing 22-27 record despite the seven consecutive wins.
