Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.J. Putz is going to be placed on the disabled list with a dislocated pinky and laceration to his right hand, the club told reporters (Nick Piecoro) after Friday night's loss to the Phillies.

Putz injured himself when trying to barehand a grounder off the bat of Kevin Frandsen Friday.

While Putz isn't the closer anymore for Arizona, he's still a useful member of the bullpen. In 35 appearances this season, Putz has a 2.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings.

Putz and Heath Bell serve as late-inning setup men for closer Brad Ziegler.
